Odoo ERP, explained for Canadian businesses

What each app genuinely does, which ones are free and which require a paid subscription, what it costs in Canadian dollars, and exactly what the Canadian localization ships. Every claim cites the Odoo documentation, so you can check it rather than trust it.

Common questions

What is Odoo ERP software?
Odoo is ERP software made up of individual applications that share one database. Instead of separate tools for accounting, inventory, sales and projects, the same customer, product and order records are used by every app. It comes in a free open-source Community edition and a paid Enterprise subscription.
How much does Odoo cost in Canada?
Odoo publishes Canadian pricing in CAD. The Standard plan is CAD 35.20 per user per month on yearly billing, and the Custom plan is CAD 55.00. Both figures are introductory: odoo.com states the discount is valid for 12 months, for initial users ordered. Implementation, migration and training are separate from the subscription.
Does Odoo work for Canadian businesses?
The Canadian localization ships a Canada-specific chart of accounts, fiscal positions for all thirteen provinces and territories, Canadian balance sheet and profit-and-loss variants, cheque printing, and CPA005 electronic funds transfer through a separate module. The significant gap is payroll: Odoo publishes no Canadian payroll localization.
Is Odoo free?
Odoo Community is genuinely free and open source, and you can self-host it with no licence fee. Roughly a third of the apps most businesses expect are absent from it, including the full Accounting app, Field Service, Helpdesk, Studio and Payroll. There is also a One App Free hosted plan covering a single app with unlimited users.

Who publishes this, and why it matters

This reference is published by Solvync Inc., a Certified Odoo Implementation Partner in Calgary. We implement Odoo for a living, which gives us the source material and also gives us an interest. So this site carries no sales pages and no implementation quotes, and every factual claim cites the Odoo documentation (19.4), odoo.com, or the public source repository.

Where Odoo is a poor fit, this site says so. The payroll gap on the Canadian page is the clearest example. More about how this is put together.
